Regina, Sask. — The Regina Red Sox are pleased to announce the return of Jason Veyna as the Club’s Director of Baseball Operations and Field Manager for the 2027 Western Canadian Baseball League season.

Veyna returns to the Red Sox with extensive experience at both the WCBL and collegiate levels, along with a long-standing connection to the organization. He previously served as an assistant coach with Regina in 2018 under then-field manager Mitch MacDonald before taking over as the Club’s field manager for the 2019 season. Veyna also served as the Red Sox field manager in 2022.

In his first season as Regina’s field manager in 2019, Veyna guided the Red Sox to a 41-15 record, producing the best winning percentage in the WCBL at .732. Regina advanced through the playoffs and represented the Eastern Division in the 2019 WCBL Championship Series before falling to the Okotoks Dawgs. Following the season, Veyna was named the WCBL Eastern Division nominee for Coach of the Year and was selected to coach the East Conference at the WCBL All-Star Game.

Veyna also brings experience from outside Regina, having served as the Field Manager and General Manager of the Swift Current 57s in 2024.

His connection to the Red Sox dates back even further. As a player, Veyna suited up for Regina in 2009 and 2011 and was a member of the 2011 WMBL Championship team. During the championship season, Veyna hit .277 with 25 RBI while posting a .968 fielding percentage.

A native of Lamar, Colorado, Veyna played his collegiate baseball at Trinidad State Junior College, Georgia College & State University and Colorado State University Pueblo before beginning his professional career, which included stops with the Abilene Prairie Dogs and Trinidad Triggers.

Veyna currently serves as the Head Baseball Coach at Trinidad State Junior College, where he has continued to develop collegiate players and build a successful program. Among his accomplishments are leading Trinidad State to the 2022 Region 9 South Division Championship, while four Trinidad State players advanced to NCAA Division I programs following the 2023 season. Under Veyna’s leadership, the program has also continued its focus on developing players for four-year collegiate baseball opportunities.

“We are excited to have Jason back with the Regina Red Sox,” said Red Sox General Manager Mitch MacDonald. “Jason possesses a strong baseball mind with managerial experience in the WCBL and at the collegiate level, and he understands our league and our organization intimately. Having been a player, assistant coach and head coach with us previously, Jason knows what it takes to be successful in the WCBL, having reached the league final in all three capacities. He also understands the type of players and people our organization values. We are looking forward to having Jason back at Currie Field this summer.”

“This isn’t just a new opportunity, it’s the beginning of a new era built on a proud tradition of excellence and success,” said Veyna. “I’m honoured, grateful and incredibly excited to lead the Regina Red Sox. Having been both a player and a coach within this organization, this opportunity carries an even deeper sense of pride and responsibility for me.

“I’m committed to building on the legacy of those who came before us while adding another chapter to the Red Sox tradition. The work has already begun, and roster construction is underway. I’m excited to get back to Regina, reconnect with this great baseball community and help lead an organization and a city that expects and embraces winning. The next chapter starts now.”

The Regina Red Sox are looking forward to welcoming Jason Veyna back to Currie Field for the 2027 WCBL season.
