Regina, Sask. — The Regina Red Sox are pleased to announce the signings of right-handed pitchers Izzy Johnson and Ryne Griffin for the 2026 season.

Johnson, a sophomore at Missouri State University–West Plains (JUCO), has been a two-way player, seeing time both on the mound and in the outfield. The 5-foot-8, 160-pound right-hander from Dardanelle, Arkansas is committed to Ottawa University (Kansas), where he will transition to pitching full-time. Johnson features a fastball that reaches up to 89 mph.

“Izzy Johnson is a live arm pitcher that we are looking forward to seeing on the bump this summer,” said Red Sox Field Manager Rye Pothakos. “He is a sophomore that will be transferring to Ottawa University in the fall. Izzy can start, pitch in middle relief, or be used in the backend.”

Griffin, a freshman at Bethany Lutheran University (NCAA D3), has yet to see action on the mound this season but has appeared in four games as a shortstop, hitting .375 (3-for-8) with three RBIs and two walks. The 6-foot, 170-pound right-hander from White City, Sask., attended Martin Collegiate in Regina and played for the White Butte Broncos of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League (SPBL). During his time in the SPBL, Griffin ranked third in the league with a 1.63 ERA and second with a 1.05 WHIP, holding opposing hitters to a .191 batting average.

“Griffin is a local product that is a two-way guy that will add some depth to our pen,” added Pothakos. “An athletic player with good speed, we see him developing into a nice WCBL player as he gains experience and playing time.”

The Regina Red Sox are excited to welcome both Izzy and Ryne to Regina as they continue to build their roster ahead of the 2026 WCBL season.
