Regina, Sask. The Regina Red Sox enter the weekend with a 3-3 record and three games on the schedule as they look to bounce back from a pair of tough losses earlier this week.

Regina opened the week with an entertaining offensive battle against the Saskatoon Berries on Tuesday night, ultimately falling 11-10 despite a spirited comeback effort. After trailing 8-1 through four innings, the Red Sox chipped away at the deficit, highlighted by a five-run sixth inning that brought them back into contention.

Brady Bye continued his torrid start to the season, going 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs. Alex Roux crossed the plate three times while collecting two hits, and Justin Simard recorded his first four-hit game of the campaign while driving in a pair of runs.

Cannon Hensarling got the start for Regina, allowing seven runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five over 2.2 innings.

The Red Sox returned to Currie Field on Thursday looking to get back in the win column but dropped a 6-1 decision to the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

Aiden Shumaker turned in another strong performance on the mound, allowing just two runs on four hits and two walks across five innings. Regina opened the scoring in the contest when Ty Martinez delivered an RBI double, but the Mavericks answered in the fifth inning before taking the lead in the sixth. Medicine Hat added four insurance runs in the ninth inning to secure the victory.

Despite the recent setbacks, the Red Sox continue to receive strong production from the heart of their lineup.

Bye has emerged as one of the hottest hitters in the WCBL through the first six games of the season. The infielder is batting .444 (12-for-27) with four home runs, one double and a league-leading 15 RBIs.

Simard has also been a key contributor from the two-hole, hitting .385 with a .467 on-base percentage while driving in nine runs through six games.

Weekend Preview

The Red Sox begin a busy three-game weekend Friday night when they travel to Weyburn and take on the Beavers. Weyburn enters the contest with a 2-3 record and is coming off an impressive 8-1 victory over the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Regina then heads north on Saturday for a rematch against the first-place Saskatoon Berries, who sit at 5-1 on the season. The two clubs combined for 21 runs earlier this week in one of the most entertaining games of the young campaign.

The weekend wraps up Sunday afternoon when the Red Sox return home to host the Swift Current 57’s at Currie Field. Swift Current enters the weekend with a 1-3 record, while first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
