REGINA, Sask. – The Regina Red Sox continue to trend in the right direction as they battle for a Western Canadian Baseball League playoff berth, posting a 3-2 record through the first five games of their eight-game road trip.
Regina opened the week with a pair of impressive victories, defeating the Medicine Hat Mavericks 9-2 before earning a 9-3 win over the Weyburn Beavers to extend their winning streak to five games.
The streak came to an end on Friday with an 11-6 setback against the Sylvan Lake Gulls, but the Red Sox quickly responded by blanking the Fort McMurray Giants 1-0 on Saturday behind an outstanding pitching performance from Samuel Jackson with seven scoreless innings. The club wrapped up the weekend with a 10-2 loss to the Giants on Sunday, leaving Regina at 3-2 through the opening five contests of the trip.
With the postseason approaching, the Red Sox have positioned themselves well in the Eastern Division standings. Regina sits third with a 19-25 record and has gone 6-4 over its last 10 games. The club holds a one-game cushion over the fourth-place Weyburn Beavers and sits 1.5 games ahead of the fifth-place Medicine Hat Mavericks, while the Swift Current 57’s trail Regina by 4.5 games. The top four teams in each division qualify for the WCBL playoffs.
Offensively, Brady Bye continues to pace the Red Sox lineup and remains among the WCBL’s top power hitters. The slugging infielder ranks in the league’s top five with 11 home runs while leading Regina with 53 RBIs. Bye is batting .328 with a .383 on-base percentage and has consistently delivered in the middle of the order.
Jalen Meyers has continued to ignite the offense from the leadoff spot, producing a remarkable .426 batting average and a .524 on-base percentage through 30 games. Meyers has added six home runs, eight doubles and 21 RBIs while frequently setting the table for the heart of the lineup.
Utility infielder Jake Fowler has also been a key contributor since joining the club, hitting .370 with a .420 on-base percentage across 20 games while providing valuable versatility around the diamond.
On the mound, Kris Hahn has anchored the starting rotation with a stellar 2.75 ERA over 36 innings pitched this season. David Gordon has also been a dependable arm, posting a 3.98 ERA across 31.2 innings while consistently giving Regina quality outings.
The Red Sox will continue their road trip this week with two games against the Energy City Cactus Rats before returning to Sylvan Lake to conclude the trip. Regina then returns home to Currie Field on Friday, July 31, to open a crucial series against the Weyburn Beavers as the playoff race enters its final stretch.
