Regina, Sask. — The Regina Red Sox are pleased to announce the signings of sophomore standouts Mason Tafoya (INF/OF) and Will Togher (INF) from Garden City Community College, adding two dynamic bats to the lineup ahead of the upcoming WCBL season.
Tafoya, a versatile 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitter out of Cheyenne, Wyoming, is enjoying a breakout sophomore campaign. Through 31 games, Tafoya is batting an impressive .330 with 10 home runs, 33 RBI, 43 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases. His ability to impact the game in multiple ways is reflected in his outstanding .439 on-base percentage and .670 slugging percentage, good for a stellar 1.109 OPS. Capable of playing both the infield and outfield, Tafoya brings valuable defensive flexibility to the Red Sox roster. He also turned in a strong freshman season at Garden City CC, hitting .283 with four home runs, 26 RBI, and a .452 OBP across 49 games.
“Tafoya is a speedy outfielder with power,” said Red Sox field manager Rye Pothakos. “He’s got 10 home runs and leads Garden City’s offensive attack on a game-by-game basis. He will be an exciting player for our fans to enjoy this summer.”
Togher, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound infielder from Fort Collins, Colorado, has also put together a productive sophomore season at Garden City. In 30 games, the right-handed hitter is batting .309 with a .382 on-base percentage and .546 slugging percentage, launching six home runs and collecting 11 extra-base hits along with 26 RBI. Togher’s path to Garden City has been unique, as he previously pitched at Valley City State University and Rend Lake College before transitioning into an everyday position player, where he has quickly found success at the plate.
“Will is a big-bodied first baseman who plays quality defence,” added Pothakos. “A redshirt sophomore, he’s a guy with power from the right side and will lengthen our lineup.”
With the additions of Tafoya and Togher, the Red Sox continue to bolster their roster with high-impact offensive talent and versatility. Both players are expected to play key roles as Regina looks to build toward a strong summer in the WCBL.
