Regina, Sask. — The Regina Red Sox are pleased to announce the signings of infielders Lance Anderson and Mason Canter, along with outfielder Ty Martinez for the 2026 Western Canadian Baseball League season.

Anderson, a native of Boise, Idaho, brings a strong defensive pedigree and speed to the Red Sox infield. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop is currently a junior at Little Rock (NAIA) and previously starred at Columbia Basin CC. During his time there, Anderson earned NWAC Gold Glove honours twice at shortstop and was named to the 2024 ABCA All-Region Defensive Team. Offensively, he hit .292 over two seasons, including a .322 campaign in 2025, while collecting 107 hits, scoring 63 runs, driving in 56, and swiping 45 bases.

“Lance is a quality baseball player who brings a high level of baseball IQ and savvy to our club. He’s the kind of leader you want both on and off the field, and we’re excited about what he adds to our infield,” said Red Sox field manager Rye Pothakos.

Martinez, a 6-foot, 195-pound left-handed hitting outfielder from South Weber, Utah, is enjoying a standout junior season at Keiser (NAIA). Through 25 games, Martinez is batting .351 with four home runs and 25 RBI, while posting an impressive .573 on-base percentage and .622 slugging percentage for a 1.195 OPS. Known for his discipline at the plate, he has drawn 23 walks, been hit by pitches 18 times, and struck out just 19 times. Martinez brings a wealth of collegiate experience, having previously played at UNC Asheville and Southern Virginia. During his time at Southern Virginia, he earned USA South All-Conference Second Team honours, was named USA South Rookie of the Year, and hit .378 in 2023 and .349 in 2024, totaling 13 career home runs and 49 RBI.

“Ty profiles as a true middle-of-the-order bat for us. He has the ability to hit for power, drive in runs, and still maintain a strong average. He runs well and plays with energy — we’re really looking forward to seeing him in a Red Sox uniform,” Pothakos added.

Canter, a native of Houma, Louisiana, adds youthful upside to the Red Sox infield. The 6-foot, 165-pound left-handed hitter is currently a freshman at Nicholls State University. A product of Covenant Christian Academy, Canter developed into a standout player at the high school level and also competed with Team Louisiana, showcasing his talent against top competition.

“From everything we’ve heard, Mason is an exceptional defender who can handle all three infield positions with confidence. He’s a left-handed hitter with outstanding bat-to-ball skills, and we think he’s going to be a very exciting player for our fans to watch this season,” Pothakos said.

The Regina Red Sox continue to build a competitive roster as they prepare for the 2026 WCBL season.
