The Regina Red Sox were well represented at the 2026 WCBL All-Star Weekend in Saskatoon, with five players helping Team East to a convincing 9-2 victory over Team West in Sunday’s All-Star Game at Cairns Field.
The weekend festivities began on Saturday with the WCBL Skills Competition, where two Red Sox took centre stage. Infielder Justin Simard showcased his precision in the bunt competition, while league home run leader Brady Bye represented Regina in the Home Run Derby after an outstanding first half of the season.
On Sunday, Red Sox ace Kaegan Baker earned the starting assignment for Team East and made the most of the opportunity. The right-hander needed just eight pitches—six for strikes—to retire the side in order during a scoreless opening inning, setting the tone for Team East’s dominant performance.
Bye cracked the starting lineup as the designated hitter, batting cleanup. Although he was held hitless, finishing 0-for-2, the Red Sox offense was well represented later in the game by Simard and Will Togher.
Simard delivered one of the strongest performances of the afternoon, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Togher also made his mark after entering the game, finishing 1-for-2 while crossing the plate twice.
Late-inning reliever David Gordon also took the mound for Team East, allowing no hits over two-thirds of an inning while issuing three walks on 26 pitches.
All five Red Sox All-Stars — Baker, Bye, Simard, Togher and Gordon — saw action during the weekend finale, highlighting the club’s strong representation at the league’s annual showcase.
With the All-Star break complete, the Red Sox now turn their attention to the stretch drive of the 2026 WCBL season.
Regina enters the second half with a 16-23 record and currently occupies the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division, sitting a half-game ahead of the Weyburn Beavers and 2.5 games up on the Swift Current 57’s.
The Red Sox begin an eight-game road trip on Tuesday night when they visit the Medicine Hat Mavericks. Regina will return to Currie Field on Friday, July 31, to open a home series against the Weyburn Beavers.
