Regina, Sask. — The Regina Red Sox are pleased to announce the return of catchers Rhett Hodgins and Daniel Castellanos for the upcoming season, bringing back a familiar and reliable tandem behind the plate.

Hodgins, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher from Regina, returns after serving as the Red Sox’ backup catcher last season. The local product is currently attending Taft College (California JUCO), where he appeared in 35 games during the 2025 season, hitting .252 with a .344 on-base percentage and driving in 13 runs.

With the Red Sox in 2025, Hodgins appeared in 13 games, batting .240 with a strong .382 OBP while collecting seven RBI. Defensively, Hodgins is known for calling a game like a veteran beyond his years. He blocks the ball well, shows good arm strength, and provides a steady, confident presence behind the plate.

“Rhett had a really strong full season with us and took big steps in his overall game,” said Red Sox Field Manager Rye Pothakos. “He’s a solid receiver who does a great job presenting pitches, and he calls a game behind the plate like a veteran. Offensively, he’s got a nice, compact swing and came up with some timely hits for us down the stretch. He competes every pitch and gives our pitching staff a lot of confidence.”

Castellanos joined the Red Sox late last season and made an immediate impact. The 6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher from Los Angeles, California hit .350 with a .467 on-base percentage over 16 games, drawing seven walks while striking out just three times.

Currently a senior at NCAA Division II West Texas A&M, Castellanos is recognized for his advanced game-calling skills, strong receiving ability, and knack for throwing runners out. With a solid frame and polished defensive tools, he quickly earned the trust of the Red Sox pitching staff upon his arrival.

“Daniel is a gritty catcher with a ton of baseball savvy and experience, and we’re excited to have him back,” Pothakos added. “He handles the staff extremely well, calls a strong game, and does a great job receiving and controlling the running game. He’s got a good frame and isn’t afraid of the big moment — he’s proven he can be clutch at the plate. Having both of these guys back gives us a lot of stability behind the dish.”

The return of Hodgins and Castellanos gives the Red Sox a dependable and talented catching duo, combining local development with collegiate experience as the club looks ahead to the new season.
