Sox Returning Key Members of 2011 Championship Team
REGINA, SK -- The Regina Red Sox are pleased to announce their first wave of player signings for the 2012 Western Major Baseball League season.
Returning to the Red Sox in 2012 will be a number of key components to the 2011 Championship squad, including Mitch and Geoff MacDonald, outfielders Chester Pak and Josh Young, catcher Chris Untereiner, and shortstop Randy Ramirez.
"These guys played vital roles in our success last season, but more importantly they all know what it means to be a member of this organization," said first-year head coach Justin Eiswirth.
Also slated to return to the Red Sox are pitchers Ryan Brezinski, Landon Adelman, Marc Lowther.
Thanks to their success on the field last season, the Red Sox were scheduled to begin their season earlier than most clubs. They'll open Currie Field on May 30th in a feature Opening Night game against their rivals from Moose Jaw, which means less time for new players to adapt to their surroundings before taking to the diamond.
Eiswirth feels his core of returning players will lessen the impact of an early start.
"One of the biggest challenges in this league is getting 27 guys from all over North America to come together as a team in a short period of time," said Eiswirth. "For some new players, coming to a new country may be a difficult experience, but our returning players are great at making the new guys part of the team the moment they get to our clubhouse."
With one of their largest returning casts in franchise history, the Red Sox are hopeful of another successful season both on and off the field.
And, while Opening Night is still a few weeks away, the city of Regina - and the Red Sox - can look at the number of players wanting to return as a definite win.
"I think these guys realize that this isn't just summer ball they've signed up for," said Eiswirth. "There is a way we do things that goes beyond the wins and losses. The 'Red Sox Way' quite simply believes that good people make good baseball players and through baseball we can develop better people. I think our returners embraced that philosophy and they want to continue that development this summer."
